With winter rapidly approaching and the snow starting to fly in the mountains, we thought it might be time to give everyone an update on our latest innovations with regard to guest safety in the mountains. This season we have decided to outfit all of our guests with the Mammut Rocker Avalanche Airbag system. We are not the first heliski operation to provide airbags, but we work hard to stay on top of ever evolving standards.
We started years ago by providing every guest with a guest pack equipped with a shovel and probe. Giving each guest a radio followed soon after. Providing avalanche airbags is one more step in our continued commitment to providing the safest, most enjoyable experience possible. While these efforts do not supersede good judgement and decision making in the mountains, they are one more protective measure in the unlikely event of an incident.
The past few seasons have seen a dramatic increase in the development and use of airbags by heliski clients and backcountry recreationists. By providing our guests with the Mammut Rocker Airbag we felt we could eliminate some of the hassles incurred with guests bringing their own.
There will be no more transportation issues with airlines, arranging for canisters to be filled, and all the maintenance will be performed on our end. Basically it means one less thing for you to worry about bringing! Just like you can leave your skis at home, you can leave your pack at home too!
Given all the different types of packs on the market, you might ask how did we choose the Mammut system? It was no small endeavour and a lot of research went into the process. Weighing all the pros and cons we determined that this system is the best for our application of heliskiing. It is the lightest and most durable pack we looked at, with a storable trigger mechanism, reducing the chance of an accidental deployment when loading and unloading from the helicopter.
They are also easy to maintain, and to refill if necessary. These are just a couple of the deciding factors, but we won’t bore you with all the details. What we really wanted to convey is that we are excited for a new season, and some new innovations to go with it. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, or call: 1-800-715-5532.
